个人简介

Ke Ren (Rita) received a First Class B.A (Hon) in Early Childhood Studies and progressed to a Master’s degree in Education (Early Intervention). She has recently completed her Ph.D.  at the School of Education, Trinity College Dublin.

Rita’s research interests are in the areas of early intervention, theoretical approaches (e.g., Bronfenbrenner) applied to early intervention practice, and the need for a fully inclusive education environment for all children and young people (e.g., special educational needs, disability). Her research has aimed to better understand the possibilities of supporting fathers/dads in their involvement and participation in the lives and educational experiences of their children with disabilities in an early intervention (EI) context. Using an exploratory qualitative approach, her doctoral study provided an insight into fathers’/dads’ experiences of, perceived barriers to, and preferences for EI services, the role of the EI professionals, and the perceptions of mothers/mums towards the fathers’/dads’ involvement in families of children with disabilities. The findings of her research revealed a significant gap in knowledge, practice, and relationships amongst the stakeholders who are critically involved in such a context in Ireland. The doctoral thesis outlines the changes needed to bridge the gap and promote fathers’/dads’ involvement in the education of their children with disabilities within an EI context. The implementation of such changes would further make an “a priori” contribution to the realisation of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the international community, particularly SDG4 (Quality Education) and SDG10 (Reducing Inequalities).

Rita is currently a part-time lecturer at St. Nicholas Montessori College, leading Dissertation and Special Education in Early Years Modules for students undertaking B.A (Hons) and B.Ed. in Montessori Education courses. She also supervises postgraduate research dissertations at Dublin City University (DCU) and Trinity College Dublin (TCD).

Rita’s background and continued work as a passionate Early Intervention Specialist, with a concentration on supporting families of young children with complex needs, particularly those who are from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. Her passion and working ethos inform her research and motivate her to develop evidence-based practices to help young children and their families reaching in their full potential.
